This movie... my god.
Emilia Clarke played her role amazingly as Lou, with her quirky yet attractive self. That red dress did look fantastic. Although to be honest in real life, I don't think I'd pass her a second glace, accent and all. I realize she played (plays?) [unpronounceable jumble of letters] Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, and that was how she was recognized as Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genisys. But Game of Thrones never caught my eye.
Sam Claflin playing Will, also did a spectacular job. And even though I don't follow The Hunger Games religiously, I immediately recognized him as the dashing Finnick Odair.
This movie is an epic love story; a tear jerker making us an emotional wreck at the end, leaving us with memories of Gerard Butler and P.S. I Love You. And I believe anyone who's been through any level of heartache can connect to at least one of the characters.
For me I had a few. Lou's boyfriend, in the moment he spoke out about feeling like he would always be a step behind the rest of the players on the field. That everyone else could see the train wreck coming, but he couldn't.
Lou's heartache of knowing she wasn't going to get her way; that no matter how hard she tried everything would fall apart and end. As well as the moment she burst into tears in her sisters arms.
I may never have been in that exact place... but I know that feeling with a close friend of mine.
And Will, between watching someone walk off with someone he was close to, and just wanting life to end. People don't know it, but I have something's that do drive me to that point where I don't want to need to deal with the pain anymore.
This movie is so very powerful, even thought it is so very British. A must watch with someone for a romantic - although year filled - night.
